A couple of weeks ago I shared a message on Sunday night and made some comments about the #MeToo Movement. I was trying to point out that everyone has responsibility to build a healthy culture, but my points were off-base and misplaced. They also didn’t represent my real opinion that I have shared many times before regarding women.
I am in favor of the #MeToo Movement; I believe God is in the middle of it. Women have been abused, unprotected, and sexually harassed for generations with little recourse. Now they are finding the courage to speak out by the thousands. This will ultimately shift culture towards protection, honor and purity for all women.
JESUS FOUNDED THE WOMEN’S LIBERATION MOVEMENT
Jesus came to set the oppressed free, and there was no people group more oppressed than women in his day. In fact, Jesus began the women’s liberation movement!
The Pharisees, Scribes and Sadducees always blamed women for seducing men. An example is the woman caught in adultery by the religious leaders, (how about the man)? But Jesus called all men to account for a holy life. He protected women and dismantled the religious culture that abused them. For example, Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28)
This is not a new conviction for me, I wrote about this in 2014 in my book entitled “Fashioned To Reign—Empowering Women to Fulfill Their Divine Destiny.” Therefore, as I said last Sunday night, I sincerely apologize for my comments I made that hurt women and created a lot of confusion over my position. Please forgive me!! I have always protected and empowered women and I celebrate any movement that helps them. The #MeToo Movement is a courageous and authentic movement that is awakening the world to an epidemic in our country. I pray it has its intended result and shifts America towards honoring women and protecting them from sexual harassment and abuse. May God help us!!!
I encourage you to check out the full message from this past Sunday with my apology and my heart for women on this podcast.
