Humility, the Attitude of Nobility
Humility is so important in our lives. Even under the New Covenant, God says that He is “opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Greatness is planted in the seedbed of humility, it’s watered by the deeds of servanthood, and then it’s cultivated by the hands of perseverance until it finally yields the harvest of royalty.
Here are 5 things we must understand about humility:
1. Humility towards God must be demonstrated in our relationships with people.
“You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time. (1 Peter 5:5-6).
2. “Great grace” is only reserved for the “humble.”
He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.” (James 4:6)
3. Not only is God opposed to the proud, but pride is “self” defeating. It’s like rust that slowly rots its own container.
A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor. (Proverbs 29:23).
4. God wants to EXALT us!
That’s right, contrary to popular opinion, God’s ultimate goal for us is that each of us would be great, amazing, and glorious. It is His reward for humility.
5. Humility + nothing = promotion.
It’s great to be gifted, talented, educated and experienced, BUT a person who lacks these advantages yet embraces humility will still be promoted.
What are some ways God is speaking to you about humility? Tell me about it in the comments below.
