4 Prisons That Will Keep You From Your Destiny

Are you searching for your calling in life? If so, check your heart for the prisons of unforgiveness, jealousy, envy, and fear, which can lead us out of our destiny and into the dungeon. The story of Saul and David returning home from their great victory over Goliath and his army is a perfect example of this. It reads:

The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on. Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul’s hand (1 Samuel 18:7-10).

BLINDED TO REALITY

Notice that the Lord sent the evil spirit on Saul. This is much like the story Jesus told in Matthew 18 about the tormentors who drive us into forgiveness. They can also drive us out of the land of jealousy. Saul’s life is an example of how jealousy blinds us to reality and leads us to irrational conclusions. Saul thought that David would overthrow him as king simply because he was more capable. He didn’t understand that God’s Kingdom is not a performance-based kingdom. We don’t lead because we are necessarily the most qualified; we lead because we are “called” to be the leader.

Princes and princesses are commissioned to see the people they lead reach their full potential in God. This means that the greatest compliment we can ever have is when the people we are leading become greater than us. If we believe that we are leading because we are the most qualified, then we will subconsciously work to undermine other people’s advancements.

SUSPICION OR DISCERNMENT

The life of King Saul also shows us how suspicion can masquerade as discernment and ultimately lead us into bondage. Suspicion is the gift of discernment being used by the spirit of fear. It leads to bitterness, unforgiveness, and torment, and it results in our going into a spiritual prison where all guards work for the dark side. The spirits who guard the walls of this prison have names like sickness, depression, hatred, and murder.

In a world more connected than ever through the internet and social media, the deep, authentic connection we all yearn for has become increasingly elusive. Created in God’s image, we instinctively desire to be known, loved, and belong, yet so many of us wrestle with invisible barriers that keep us isolated. What if the secret to breaking through these barriers lies not in more connections but in deeper, more meaningful ones with both God and others? How can we identify and overcome what prevents us from experiencing true connection in our daily lives?

In early December, I began seeking a prophetic word from the Lord for 2024. He told me, "I am not going to give you a word for 2024. Instead, I am going to give you a word for the Body of Christ for a new era." He explained that January 2024 would be a half-time; marking the closure of an era and the beginning of a new one. This period would be characterized by immense transition, culminating in the discipling of nations. A supernatural metamorphosis, metaphorically akin to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, would occur right before our eyes.

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of life's chaos, desperately needing a break, clarity, and a spiritual reset? Picture it like halftime – that pivotal moment when the coach steps in, recalibrates the team, and sparks a turnaround. The game isn't over; this is a chance to come back stronger and claim victory! In recent weeks, a resounding message has been echoing in my heart and mind: January is the Church's halftime! Our divine Coach is calling us to the huddle, to draw close, and let Him fine-tune our game plan – our values, thoughts, and behaviors. Amid the noise, He's inviting us to step away, knowing that leaning into these divine moments will catapult us into the second half, ready for victory. And in this game, we already know the final score – He wins!
