SHATTERED HOMES AND BROKEN HEARTS
Have you ever rode on the heels of a dysfunctional family story? Left to navigate broken relationships and unhealthy mindsets? Unfortunately, all too often in today’s society divorce, brokenness, and pain are the cornerstone of our homes — we’ve been left with shattered pieces of a puzzle trying to figure out how to make it all fit together again . But, the truth is, only God can take our broken hearts and mismatched pieces and turn them into a renowned masterpiece.
I know the agony of abuse and the distress of dysfunction well myself - if you don’t already know my story, my father drowned when I was three years old and left my single mother with two young children to raise in the hands of abusive step-fathers. I was riddled with fear as a child and had never experienced what a healthy marriage would hold. I was ill-prepared and unequipped to take on the journey of marriage and family at the young age of 20. But, by the grace of God Kathy and I navigated the young years of our marriage and family with the love and support of kingdom-minded community that taught us how to tend to our marriage and raise a family. Our life is a testament to the supernatural nature of God and the redemptive power of the Cross.
I recently sat down with a very intriguing guest for a Cultural Catalysts episode -
Jackie Dorman
. Jackie is a best-selling author, relationship-dating coach, and spirit mate matchmaker. While we were talking Jackie made the statement, “God will use the very thing that hurt us to heal us — when we are hurt in family, we heal in family, when we are hurt in relationship, we are healed in relationship.”
MARRIAGE IS GOD’S MATURITY PLAN
PUT DOWN THE PEN
It’s so true - God is in the business of restoring family — He is pro-kingdom love stories. I want to encourage you today, whether you are praying and waiting for your love story to unfold - invite God into it. Give Him permission to take the pen and be the author of your love story. So often we grip it so tightly that He is not actually invited into the process, because fear and pain have built walls around our hearts and kept us in the prison of self-preservation. Remember, Proverbs says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” What I am getting at is, what you believe is what you will become. It’s vital to take care of the weeds of your heart and tend to the soil of your soul. From these very places you will grow into the person that you are and attract the type of person you will become.
I pray as you watch this week’s Cultural Catalysts episode you are filled with faith for family and hope for your relationships! God sees you and knows your heart fully, He has good things for you and your family no matter what your story is.
