We Are in a John-the-Baptist Era

IT’S TIME TO PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD

Have you ever considered the life of John the Baptist? Famously known for his “off the grid” milk-drinking and honey-eating, traveling through the wilderness barefoot, making a scene lifestyle? Ruffling the feathers of normalcy, confronting religious comfortability, and protesting societal hierarchy.

Maybe you’re similar to John the Baptist and have had a mission, a call, or reason to jump off the boat of the status quo and dive deep into the pursuit of the One. He shook off the settled down lukewarm doctrine of religiosity to discover the real Truth that he was destined to burn for. Maybe it was when you gave your life to the Lord that you realized what you were made for, or hit with the reality that comfortability won’t lead you to the life you’ve dreamed of.

Luke 3 says: “Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,
the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.”

Isn’t it interesting that all these men that have prestigious titles are listed prior to it stating that the word of God came to John the Baptist in the wilderness? I’d propose the Lord is moving outside of the realm of “how God should move” as He did in the days of John the Baptist.

I felt led to highlight the life of
John the Baptist because it represents the very mandate we have been given in this hour as prophetic people — to break the silence, make the crooked paths straight, and prepare the way of the Lord. Hidden amongst the nuance of his nature is the very prophetic proclamation that his life represents — he wasn’t just bold in battling the cultural rhetoric of his day but blaringly broke 400 years of silence “shouting in the wilderness - make straight the way for the Lord”, John 1:23. He was forging the way, pioneering the path, and taking a stance that would shift history.

He wasn’t concerned with the thoughts of man or if his language would land as acceptable, comforting, or flattering to the ear. Rather, he released a holy disruption not just with his words, but with his lifestyle that transformed the thought of the future, challenged the current culture, and laid the groundwork for the Messiah to tear the veil.

MODERN-DAY JOHN-THE-BAPTIST

I want to encourage you to consider what a modern-day John the Baptist would look like. What would it look like to prepare the way of the Lord in the 21st century, to move from the land of conformity to one of impact and transformation?

I want to challenge you, to consider what it would look like if you took the prophetic word of the Lord that has been declared over your life, let it seep into your bones, and move you to action in your home, work, and world. Would there be a revolution, a modern-day movement, a moral shift, and thousands being baptized in the sea of repentance?

We are in a prophetic moment in history - the Lord is doing a new thing!

Many of us have been misled into thinking that to love ourselves is a form of selfishness. Yet, what does Scripture really say? 'Love your neighbor as yourself'—this commandment from the Bible isn't just an instruction to love others but a divine mandate that ties our ability to love others to how much we cherish and accept ourselves. As we unpack this, let’s redefine what it truly means to love ourselves in the light of God's word, discovering how this self-love is not selfish but is actually the cornerstone of genuine relationships.

In a world more connected than ever through the internet and social media, the deep, authentic connection we all yearn for has become increasingly elusive. Created in God’s image, we instinctively desire to be known, loved, and belong, yet so many of us wrestle with invisible barriers that keep us isolated. What if the secret to breaking through these barriers lies not in more connections but in deeper, more meaningful ones with both God and others? How can we identify and overcome what prevents us from experiencing true connection in our daily lives?

In early December, I began seeking a prophetic word from the Lord for 2024. He told me, "I am not going to give you a word for 2024. Instead, I am going to give you a word for the Body of Christ for a new era." He explained that January 2024 would be a half-time; marking the closure of an era and the beginning of a new one. This period would be characterized by immense transition, culminating in the discipling of nations. A supernatural metamorphosis, metaphorically akin to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, would occur right before our eyes.
